TEA TREE OIL

PURITY

Pure Tea Tree Oil.

Characterised by the chemical terpinen-4-ol, the main component of the essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia.

Not all products labelled as tea tree oil can be trusted.

Some non-Australian companies deliberately adulterate tea tree oil.

Using fillers, additives, and impurities, or even labelling
synthetic products as pure, to maximise profits.

Insist on 100% pure Australian tea tree oil.

Avoid adulterated products by seeking out ATTIA code of practice certified tea tree oil.

Don’t risk products labelled as
‘natural identical’ tea tree oil.

Manufacturers deceptively mimic the physical properties of
Melaleuca alternifolia to conform to international standards.

These oils have no scientific evidence to support their safety and effectiveness.

Commercial standards are important in the
identification of adulterated tea tree oil.

Testing.

Most organic compounds are ‘chiral’, meaning the compound and its mirror
image are non-superimposable, just like our right and left hand.

Pure tea tree oil is identified by chiral purity testing, including
the enantiomeric distribution of Melaleuca alternifolia.

The big issue.

From consumers to government regulators, there is potential to be deceived,
as companies are allowed to run their own compliance testing in their own laboratories.

49%

In a published study‡, 49% of commercial products tested did not meet ISO specifications when independently tested.

50%

In a published study∓, 50% of non-Australian samples varied markedly from the enantiomeric distribution of Melaleuca alternifolia.

The world’s most stringent quality controls.

Look for the ATTIA trustmark as a guarantee of 100% pure, regulated, traceable, safe, and effective tea tree oil.

ATTIA actively monitors global product adulteration.

ATTIA runs its own product monitoring program to protect the interests of consumers with regard to safety and efficacy.

‘If you prioritise consumer protection, then don’t trust anything but 100% pure Australian tea tree oil.’
